Ingredients

  • 1 ounce (30 ml) cognac
  • 1 teaspoon (3 g) sugar
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) hot, fresh espresso or strong coffee
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) prepared hot chocolate
  • 4 ounces (113 ml) milk or light cream
  • Grated chocolate, for garnish

  • Method

    1. In a small saucepan, stir together the cognac, sugar, espresso, and hot chocolate.
    2. Heat gently over a low flame. Do not allow to boil.
    3. Froth the milk until doubled in volume.
    4. Pour the espresso mixture into two tempered cognac glasses or latte mugs.
    5. Dollop the frothed milk over the espresso.
    6. Sprinkle grated chocolate on top.

    7. Variation

      1. The cognac may be replaced with a syrup of choice for a nonalcoholic beverage.
